Cascade Lodge has direct access to a snowmobile trail system that offers over 125 miles of groomed Grant-in-Aid trails right at your doorstep, and 140 more miles of state groomed trails with interconnecting trails extending to major destinations like Grand Marais, the Gunflint Trail, Ely, Duluth, Grand Rapids, as well as many others. The system offers something for every rider. Let's not forget about the back country boondocking opportunities that abound in this vast region. From drift skipping on a remote frozen lake at the edge of the Boundary Waters wilderness to crossing borders into Canada. Numerous vistas and overlooks will take your breath away!
From a casual afternoon ride to all-out endurance touring, our trails will encourage you to ride just a little bit more. Imagine the chill that will run up your spine if you hear a timber wolf howl in the distance as you take a break at one of our many shelters located along the way. Remember to yield the right of way to moose, wolves, and deer! With early season snows and late season meltdowns. It's possible to ride for 5 or 6 months here. Take the time to hear the silence. Ever listen to it snow?
Ice fishing is another whole world up here in the Arrowhead. During early season ice, the Walleyes respond well to a minnow on a jig. Almost any lake at anytime can produce wall mount Northern Pike. Crappies are kind of scarce but VERY large when found. In January and February it's all about the Trout. Then it's back to late season walleyes as the Canadian border lakes are open until mid-April. Snowmobiles are the perfect way to access these fisheries, and towing a portable fish house behind expands your adventure. The possibilities are as endless as your imagination!
